To discover God’s economy, I am starting with the Bible – Old and New Testaments. Within the next year or so, I am aiming to read the entire Bible, marking with a coloured pencil every reference that, in my view, pertains to the world of economics. So far, I have covered the first five books of the Old Testament plus Job.
My objective is to become more attuned to God’s thinking on the subject and, then, to apply these principles in today’s world. This application can take place at many levels. Most importantly, this will involve changing the way I think and act in my personal life (i.e. repentance) but I also want to use whatever spheres of influence I have to advocate change at the institutional and societal levels.
I plan to use this blog as a way of “thinking out loud” as I undertake this journey, so all comments are very welcome!
This sounds like a really exciting project and one that I'm sure will be beneficial for us all as we engage with what God's economy might look like. Perhaps this is a little premature, but if you've already come across passages/patterns that you think are key, could you share them on the blog, so that we can collectively consider their implications? I know we won't have the overview that you'll eventually get once you've gone through the whole Bible. But it would be great to get some provisional discussions started.
